Liz + Steve – Wedding
This is probably the first and only OLAS blog post that starts off with a history lesson, but Liz and Steve’s beautiful, beautiful wedding was held on Mare Island, California, and we can’t keep the story of the island’s unusual name to ourself. So, briefly: in 1835, a ferry transporting men and animals capsized in a terrible storm near the coast of California. Among the animals certain to be dead was General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo’s beautiful, prized gray mare. But miraculously, the horse was found alive and alone on the island several days later, and the island was consequently renamed Mare Island. (Any Black Stallion fans out there?! Doesn’t this story sound so similar?)
So, the wonderful Mare Island sets the scene of Liz and Steve’s gorgeous wedding. Their wedding had just the right amount of urban elegance and rustic charm (the thatched church is amazing!), and our West Coast team did an outstanding job of capturing the zeitgeist of the big day. While we always love weddings of all shapes and sizes, there is something so intimate and special about smaller bridal parties (and particularly when the newlyweds honored Steve’s beautiful daughter, Lori, by including her in the wedding as one of two bridesmaids). The post-wedding celebration was an intimate affair held at a charming local restaurant. There were so many precious children and babies running around, we could not resist posting a few favorite shots here. The final photo in this series, of the darling little girl who is clearly thrilled about her recently acquired tasty baked favor, is priceless. She is SO happy, and we are too, to have been a part of this oh-so-special event. Congratulations, Liz and Steve!
