Anthony + Christy::Surprise Proposal::Atlanta

When Anthony contacted us and asked us to participate in his proposal to his then-girlfriend, Christy, we were beside ourselves with excitement. Would we be a part of it? You BET we would!! Anthony had decided to propose to Christy at FAB (French-American Brasserie), an amazing restaurant in Atlanta, and knew that he wanted beautiful photos of the whole experience that he and Christy could treasure for a lifetime.  Jen, one of our absolutely amazing Atlanta photogs, was chosen for this covert operation, and Anthony set up his plan. Jen  arrived to FAB early and was placed at a table directly facing where Anthony and Christy would be sitting.

Anthony and Christy came in, sat down, and Jen acted like a normal diner until the second the Anthony got down on his knee.  Then BAM! Jen got to work doing her thang….and we are all in LOVE with the result. We are so blessed that Anthony asked us to be a part of this….and that after this experience Christy and Anthony asked us to shoot their wedding as well! Enjoy, sweet OLAS fam, and leave Anthony and Christy some love!

Vonda + Donny::Engagement in Virginia

Ya’ll….we LOVE this engagement session. Seriously, love, love, love this engagement session. Vonda and Donny are horse people, living in horse country in Virginia, and knew that they wanted to incorporate the equestrian look and feel into their sessions.  OLAS co-founder Cali came out of mini-photography-retirement (ha!) to shoot this amazing session in the countryside of Virginia at Vonda’s beautiful farm and oh.em.gee. We are SWOONING.  Their session was filled with their beautiful property, their precious farm animals, and a sweet evening romantic dinner. Sweet Vonda and Donny are getting married next week in Keswick, Virginia….and we know their wedding is going to be just as beautiful as this session!

Lindsay + Alex::Engagement

We’ve been on a bit of a wedding kick lately, and we figured it’s time to bring you some engagement goodness for this Monday afternoon. Most of the country is unseasonably cold and trying to stay warm….so we knew today was the day to bring you  Lindsay + Alex’s engagement photos. Our extraordinary husband and wife photog team, Philip + Anna, met Lindsay and Alex on what had to be the absolute HOTTEST day of the year in Atlanta, so we’re hoping some of the warmth of the day emits through the computer wherever you are (what, this can’t happen? I thought it was 2011?)  We LOVE the light, airy feel of this session, and some of our fav shots are the ones where you can faintly see the Atlanta skyline in the background. Love, love!! We’re so excited about shooting Lindsay + Alex’s big day at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens in June 2012….we love these two! xoxo

Katie + Matt – Engagement

Happy Friday, OLAS lovies!  We hope you all have had a fabulous week, and have fun plans for the weekend!  To kick off the weekend a little early, we have the really adorable engagement of Katie + Matt (shot by our amazing Carla)!  Tying the knot next April, these love birds spent a lovely Spring day playing one of the best games of all time: Scrabble :)  We are also in love with the little field they found – beautiful trees and a rustic wooden fence??  What more can we ask for?  Just about the cutest couple we’ve ever seen, here are just a few of our favorites from Katie + Matt’s engagement session!  Congratulations – we can’t wait to work with you again in April!

We know we’ll be grabbing a scrabble board and taking it to a beautiful park this weekend….and if you’d like to join us to chat about your own engagement session, be sure to contact us at info@oncelikeaspark.com! xoxo

Emilie + Mike – Engagement

Sometimes, in the hubbub (yes, I said hubbub) of our everyday work lives at OLAS, we’ll get an email, or a phone call, or even a Facebook message that will stop us all in our tracks and remind us of why we do what we do. The wedding photography world is a fast-paced, exciting one – we love that we get to spend all day every day looking at amazing details, gorgeous gowns, and stunning couples portraits. When it comes down to it, though, wedding photography really and truly is about capturing the core of a relationship. It’s about capturing images that display to the world the essence of two people and the beautiful way they are able to relate to each other, and make each other laugh, and just plain old love each other. Images are powerful – they let us revisit that emotion at times when we might need it most, and that’s why we are SO blessed to have been able to shoot Emilie and Mike’s engagement session. When Emilie contacted us, she and Mike were planning a wedding as he was preparing to leave for Iraq in just a few short weeks. Luckily, we were able to quickly squeeze in an engagement session with these two with our amazing photog Leslie in Nashville. The best part, though, is that Emilie and Mike were able to view their photos the day before he left for his tour of duty.  We received the email below from Emilie, and we can’t explain how much it means to us. Thank you Emilie and Mike, not only for your commitment and sacrifice to our country and our freedom, but for reminding all of us why we love what we do.  xoxo

*******

Dear Lauren, Ashley, Leah, Cali, and Leslie,

Thank you so SO much for our pictures.  They are beyond gorgeous, and we couldn’t be more pleased!!!  Y’all did an amazing job… Each picture seems to positively overflow with love, laughter, and joy–a perfect expression of our relationship at its best, and the fantastic time we had shooting the pictures with Leslie (Hi Leslie!  You did such a brilliant job! YAY!).

Today has been a really hard day, so I wanted to be sure to thank all of you a little bit extra.  While we would have been excited to see our engagement pictures at any point in time, receiving them yesterday was truly a blessing because Mike deployed to Iraq today.  It was so wonderful to be able to look at them together, to remember such a wonderful day in our history, and to think about how much we are looking forward to our life together as husband and wife after this deployment is over.  Y’all did more than give us beautiful photographs (although, don’t get me wrong, y’all did an amazing job with that aspect as well!)–y’all gave us a respite from our circumstances at present, and a renewed focus on our future.  I cannot thank y’all enough for that… Looking at our photographs made our last day together so very special and much easier–you helped us to see the positive instead of all of the negative.

Furthermore, the response we’ve already received from friends and family regarding our engagement pictures has been extraordinary.  I think that people have been so touched by the pictures because y’all really managed to capture both who we are as individuals, and what makes our relationship work.  We have received so much support, so many prayers, and have been blessed in so many ways today just because people were touched by the images y’all captured and edited.

Thank you all so very much for making time to take our pictures… For taking such wonderful, gorgeous pictures… For editing them so brilliantly… For setting them to snazzy music… For being such a joy to work with… And for blessing us with your talent.  I can’t possibly say thank you enough.

We can’t wait to work with y’all again to create our wedding pictures… I can only imagine how gorgeous they will be!

Many thanks again,

Emilie Duck

P.S. Mike said to be sure to let y’all know that he plans to have a few of the engagement pictures up in his tent in Iraq–talk about taking your business global :)

OLAS + The NotWedding – Engagement Shoot Part II

We must say…we are just so thankful for all of the wonderful feedback from all of you about our NotWedding Engagement shoot!  It has been one of the most amazing experiences for us here at OLAS, and we seriously cannot wait to get to Atlanta for the actual NotWedding.  If you’re a bride-to-be in Atlanta, you absolutely MUST go.  All of the most fantastically awesome vendors in Atlanta coming together to throw the best wedding ever?  Yes, please!  And we’ll be there….so, double score! :)

We also must reiterate how thankful we are for Amy Osaba for her gorgeous flowers and Mao Thao with Four Inch Fold for her to-die-for vintage pieces.  This shoot would not have been everything it is without Amy, Mao, and their phenomenal talent.

So, now.  Part II of the shoot – the more modern look.  Like we mentioned in Part I, we wanted to have two looks to this shoot so that brides-to-be could see that however they wanted their engagement pictures to look – either ripped from the pages of an Anthro catalogue circa 1914, or ALSO ripped from an Anthro catalogue but with a modern feel, you can still get the same effect—gorgeousness.

It was SO hot the day of the shoot, but sweet Caroline and Drew were so amazing to work with, they didn’t mind a wardrobe change….or the fact that we put Caroline in a suit jacket in 95* weather.  I mean, we gave them bubbles, so I think it was a win/win.

Anyway…here’s Part II of the shoot.  Hope you love it just as much as the first–and if you want your own amazing engagement shoot (circa 1914, 2011, or another year you particularly fancy), be sure to contact us at info@oncelikeaspark.com!  xoxo
