Crystal + Nick – Wedding
Michael, one of our KILLER California photographers, shot Crystal and Nick’s wedding in Sunnyvale, CA at the end of May, and we’ve been swooning at the photos ever since. Michael is an acclaimed social photojournalist, and spends much of his time “in the trenches” on assignment with some of the nation’s largest newspapers and media outlets. He has been sent to cover everything from the devastation in Haiti to the riots in Oakland, and the photojournalistic perspective that he brings to each and every wedding that he is shoots leaves us breathless. He has an amazing well of telling a complex story with photos, and all of his images relate so many levels of what he is capturing, and Crystal and Nick’s wedding was no exception. Crystal and Nick got married on his birthday (what an amazing bday gift!), and they celebrated with only their very closest friends and family. The story begins.
Michael spent some time with the guys as they wrapped up their final touches. A last quick look in the mirror, and they’re good to go.
A few more last minute details, with lots of joking around in-bewteen.The ladies were just down the road, getting ready at Crystal’s parents house. We love witnessing all of the love and care that goes into getting the bride and groom ready for their big day. We heart these shots of Crystal getting into her dress, and Nick’s dad making sure his collar is just right. These next three black and white shots are some of our absolute favorite shots of the day, and I think they speak for themselves. Absolutely beautiful.Favorite!!And yet another fav. Sigh. The ceremony begins! Crystal and Nick got married at St. Joseph’s in Mountain View – an old mission church. We love, love, love this light as the doors open and Crystal begins her walk down the aisle. The ceremony is over and Crystal and Nick are MARRIED! I know we’ve said this before, but shots of the joy on the face of the couple after the ceremony has ended are always some of our favs.Just a few details….The schedule for the day allowed for TWO HOURS between the ceremony and reception, which naturally leads to amazing couples portraits! Michael, Crystal, and Nick spent this time all over Sunnyville, utilizing everything from the nature to the small town cityscape. We love the unique, geometric feel of these next few shots…
Crystal and Nick knew they wanted shots in the streets of downtown Sunnyvale, and we’re glad they did. We love these!More downtown shots…LOVE this of the entire bridal party!
The reception begins at a local restaurant in Sunnyvale. This is yet another favorite photo of the day – the groomsmen chilling as it all begins.Michael got some amazing shots of Crystal and Nick dancing, and you can tell they are totally in their own world. Love the light in these….
Surrounded by their closest friends and family, their reception was filled with lots of dancing, and lots of laughter. Check out the sweet shots below, and mad props to Crystal and her dad for the dance coordination!
Congrats Crystal and Nick, and we are so blessed to be a part of your wedding day!

Jackie + Rik – Wedding
Jackie and Rik knew they wanted a super small, destination-type wedding to share with only their very closest friends and family. Rik had an old childhood memory from a vacation in Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, TN and suggested the spot to Jackie. The rest is history! Jackie and Rik had an extremely intimate ceremony and celebration and we were so blessed to be a part of it. Although we only spent two hours with this couple and their sweet guests, we still got TONS of amazing shots. Let the story begin…
Jackie planned many of the unique details of the big day on her own. While she was getting ready, she was a frenzy getting dressed, giving direction about the decorations and flowers, and just trying to BREATHE! She had an amazing group of women around her as she waited for the ceremony to begin. Check out her bouquet – we loved the vintage look to it.
Rik was super patient as he hid in a neighboring room waiting for the whole thing to begin. Mandi, Rik’s sister, was his Best Man-di (get it, Best Man-di?!) and she kept him company while he waited. Check out the ring bearer – how cute is he?!The beautiful, beautiful bride. Absolutely stunning! We loved Jackie’s necklace – a piece she designed on her own and then had made for her big dayRik is styling and profiling – we loved, loved, loved the gray suit with the pastel accents.
The ceremony begins! Jackie looked absolutely amazing as she headed down the stairs to the ceremony site with her father. The ceremony site was absolutely breathtaking – it was a small clearing right on the edge of Lookout Mountain. It was a beautiful day with gorgeous scenery, which obviously means gorgeous pics! Check out the pouch the flower girl used as she tossed petals down the aisle – we loved it!Again, this kid is just TOO cute for words!
They’re married! We love the joy on Jackie’s face as they walk back down the aisle. Some of our fav B&W portraits….The scenery and light was absolutely picture perfect, and we can’t get enough of the shots in these woods. Jackie and Rik each had their sister’s stand next to them during the ceremony.Love. Love. Love. Could you guys get any more gorgeous?!Congratulations Jackie and Rick! We wish you guys a lifetime of laughter and joy! xoxo

Marie + Nick – Wedding
Oh, Marie and Nick. Where to even start with these two. Marie and Nick are precious, precious friends of OLAS co-owner Ashley, and we were naturally so excited to shoot their engagement and wedding as well. Nick and Marie are two of the most fun, genuine, authentic, laid-back people that we know. They just have good vibes as individuals, and when you put them together, there is so much light and love and just plain good that comes from the two of them, it’s hard not to be happy in their presence. Nick and Marie both went to the University of Georgia, and hold the amazing city of Athens close to their hearts. They chose to get married at the chapel on campus, and we spent a lot of their portrait time on historic North Campus. Let’s begin….
Marie and all of her ladies (and she had TONS of them – lots of people love her!) got ready at the Gameday Suites. It was a bustle of activity and primping and all things feminine in the midst of a Georgia football themed conference room. We loved it.
And another favorite. The emotion from a bride as she walks down the aisle is always such a powerful thing. It’s the culmination of so much planning and dreaming and worrying and thinking, and then her sweet groom is standing waiting for her at the end. Swoon. We love this sweet shot of Marie as she is walking towards Nick.
Marie and Nick had a gorgeous ceremony, and you could feel the love in the room from all of their friends and family.More ceremony shots…..
It’s a tradition at UGA to ring the victory bell after a win or any other momentous event – we certainly think this qualifies! We love these couples portraits at the bell – some of our favorites from the day!More fun on campus…..Congrats Drs. Nick and Marie Capito! We love you both and wish you a lifetime of happiness! We met Sara and Chris when we took their engagement photos several months ago, and were enthralled with this precious pair. Sara is a wedding coordinator at an Atlanta wedding venue, and Chris is a top-notch chef at yet another amazing venue, so we knew the combo of these two was going to make for an amazing wedding. They certainly did not disappoint! Sara + Chris got married at Canoe in Atlanta, and their wedding had an air of a fun, elegant garden party. Their flowers were some of the most beautiful that we’ve seen, and the day went off without a hitch. Sara confessed to us on her wedding day that she had been very nervous during her engagement session – we had NO idea. During their e-session, Sara was as cheery and smiley and giggly as anyone we had worked with, and on her wedding day we experienced that same glee from Sara – it came out immediately when she was around Chris. She preciously giggled through the ceremony, was giddy during their first dance, and was beaming all night with Chris by her side. It’s so amazing and refreshing to see such a pair so authentically happy and joyful around each other – and these two are certainly that. Congrats Sara + Chris!
Sara and her ladies gathered in her hotel room to help her get all glammed up….
Gorgeous day for a wedding….Sara giggling her way through the ceremony, and the precious flower girls. Check out their parasols – a DIY project from Sara. Beautiful summer ceremony, and some hilarious candid shots of Sara and Chris during her father’s speech.Details, details, details. Check out the cake topper – so presh!Gorgeousness a la couples portraits. Pure joy during their first dance… Read More
Sharon + Jason – Engagement
Over in (once like a spark) land, we occasionally get into giddy-giggling convos about just how lucky we are to be doing what we’re doing, who we’re doing it with, day after day. Often during these giggle sessions, we joke (except we’re not joking at all) about how so many of our clients are so cool that we want to call them after their weddings and ask if we can be bff’s. No, really. Sharon and Jason are just these type of people. Sharon knows OLAS owner Cali from back-in-the-day, and this couple is the perfect combo of hilariousness, sweetness, smartness…and just overall coolness. We’ve absolutely loved reading Sharon’s blog that describes all that is wedding planning – her authentic account of what it means to be a bride-to-be preparing for a lifetime with Jason is mixed with some hilarious wit , and we just love it. Sara, from our (once like a spark)*southeast team, met Sharon and Jason at Jittery Joe’s in Athens – perfect for this couple, and especially Sharon, who is a book lover. Check out their e-session below, and look out for their wedding photos in late summer!
